General Hospital Live Episodes: ABC Unveils Two-Day Network Daytime Television Event

“GENERAL HOSPITAL” BROADCASTS LIVE FROM LOS ANGELES
ON FRIDAY, MAY 15 AND MONDAY, MAY 18

ABC will unveil a two-day network daytime television event as “General Hospital” broadcasts live from Los Angeles -- it was announced today, by “General Hospital” Executive Producer Frank Valentini. “GH” will air a live show on Friday, May 15 and another live show on Monday, May 18.

Live television was once the norm for soaps in the early days, and most of the actors came from theatre backgrounds. If they made a mistake, they were trained and ready on their feet to pick up and move on as smoothly as possible. Nowadays it's much more of an event: the television drama "ER" did a live episode for both the Eastern and Pacific timeslots during one Sweeps period, as did the sitcom 'Will and Grace'. Both were successful and noteworthy episodes.

“Taking such an iconic show as ‘General Hospital’ live for two days is both exhilarating and risky,” said Frank Valentini about the two upcoming live broadcasts of “General Hospital.” “I am enormously proud of our cast, crew and staff for all their tireless dedication and hard work that will be leading up to this daytime television event. It’s live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what’s fun about this and we’re absolutely up to the challenge.”

Additionally, fans can be a part of the conversation surrounding this live event by using #GHLive on Twitter.
“General Hospital,” which celebrated its 52nd anniversary on April 1, 2015, is the longest running American soap opera currently in production and the longest running scripted drama on television currently in production. “General Hospital” has received the prestigious Emmy Award for Outstanding Daytime Drama a record eleven times. “General Hospital” was created by Frank and Doris Hursley.  Frank Valentini is the executive producer and Ron Carlivati is the head writer .  “General Hospital” airs weekdays on the ABC Television Network.
